Cheese Danish

Who doesn’t love a flaky cheese Danish! I didn’t realize how easy they were to make until I was scrolling and watched some reels of how to make them at home. So, I thought let’s give it a go!

What you need: puff pastry (I used two sheets), block of cream cheese, some sugar, vanilla and a pinch of salt, and one egg.

Preheat the oven to 400. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and a pinch of salt. I let my cream cheese soften and just mixed with a spoon. I think next time, it will be easier to use my hand mixer or stand mixer to get a smoother consistency. I may even use whipped cream cheese (or flavored cream cheese)!

I then lad out my puff pastry cutting each sheet to 6 event rectangles.  I scored a smaller rectangle in the middle for where my filling would go. I beat an egg with some water for my egg wash; brushing the edges of each rectangle with it. I evenly divided my filling amongst all the pieces. I then added a scoop of jelly to a few to have a cheese and fruit variety. I used a mixed berry and strawberry. I did one more egg wash to the edges before popping them in the oven for about 15-18 minutes. I did rotate them a bit to help get a move event brown edge.

My mistake was allowing the puff pastry to defrost too much. It was hard to work with and stuck to my hands. As a result, my Danishes were all different sizes and I felt like were a bit too thin (not puffy enough lol). So, make sure you do not take it out and set it on the oven to defrost too much lol. Overall, they ate like the perfect Danish and they were delicious. We will be trying these again to see if we can perfect it, plus try different flavors and maybe some savory ones? I think the possibilities are endless!

Live to Eat,
