Creamy Ham and Potato Soup

In the mess of being behind, I am also forgetting to take pictures. So for this recipe, you will need to use your imagination as I forgot to take pictures. But it was a delicious soup and perfect comforting recipe for soup season!

I had a ham bone in the freezer, so ham soup was on deck. I decided to go with a creamy ham and potato. I started off with a ham broth, by simmering the bowl with water for about 30 minutes. I removed the bone, tasted the broth and seasoned as necessary. Then in separate pan I sautéed some onions, celery and carrots with some ham fat salt, pepper (white and black), parsley and sage. After a few minutes, I added it to the broth. I allowed that to simmer for a bit and then added some cut up baby potatoes. I tasted the broth and added a bit more salt and pepper. I then added some heavy creamy and continue the simmer to get a creamy comforting soup!

The mistake I made was note realizing my ham bone didn’t have much meat on it, but mostly fat. It created a great flavor, but I was missing ham chunks. Nothing a ham steak couldn’t fix! So the next day (after stopping at the store for a ham steak lol), I fried some up and added it to the soup. It completed the ham and potato bite! I think next time I may need to skim some of the fat from bone/after it sits over night, so the soup doesn’t get too fatty/greasy. But I still enjoyed it anyways LOL.

  1. Yummy! I have some fake ham. I have to give it a try. Thanks! Btw…. I saw some cream in the clearance section at Stauffers. Headed back today to get it! Something told me to buy it when I saw it but, alas, I didn’t listen. Lol
