Do you love the sweet and salty combination like I do? How about Rice Krispy treats? Well I was determine to find the best sweet and salty treat combination. Essentially you make them as you would Rice Krispy treats, but don’t use the cereal. I tried one method of melting the butter and marshmallows in the microwave, but stove top in a pot works the best and I recommend that process for now on!
I mixed about 4-6 cups of whatever treats, with about 6-10 oz. of melted marshmallows and 3-5 tablespoons of melted butter. Start by melting the butter and marshmallows and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in your treats. Allow to cool before cutting into squares. See all the combinations listed below (starting with the favorite)!

- Diffenbaugh’s Salt and vinegar chips were the best. It was something about the salty tanginess from the vinegar that paired so well with the marshmallows.
- Next up was the peanut butter filled pretzels. Again a great salty balance with the sweetness of peanut butter and marshmallows.
- Grandma Utz comes in third. It was a good salty crunch, but something was missing (aka the added vinegar).
- Last was the Martin’s chips. You definitely need a sturdy, crunchy kettle cooked chip to hold up in the mixing with marshmallow process. However, Martin’s just was not salty enough.
Overall it was great success on the sweet and salt treat. I think next time, I should try something else – let me know if you have any other suggestions!
Live to eat,
Tiv
I’ve never been a fan of Rice Krispie treats but I will say making them with chips was a success. Salt and vinegar chips made the difference.
