Apple Pie

I had apples that needed to be used up, so I thought I would give it a go and try to make an apple pie. I have never made one myself before (but I have eaten plenty LOL), so I went to Pinterest and the Food Network app for some recipe ideas. Here is how it all came together!

The ingredients that I used: I cheated/used the short cut of pre-made pie crust (2-pack), 6 granny smith apples, ¾ cup sugar, 2 tbsp. flour, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, ¾ tsp cinnamon and ¼ tsp salt.

I started by taking out the pie crust to get to room temperature and preheating the oven to 425. Next I peeled all the apples, used my apple cutter and then sliced them thinly. In a large bowl, I added the sliced apples, sugar, flour, lemon juice (ended up be more than 1 tbsp. once I finished squeezing the lemon), cinnamon and salt. I tossed the apples until they were evenly coated. Then I sprayed a glass pie dish with cooking spray and placed the first pie crust down. I added the apple filling and then topped it with the second pie crust. I tried to be fancy and cut a design in the top as well! I baked the pie for about 40-45 minutes, until it was a nice golden brown.

Looks – it came out perfect! Taste, was good, but I think using more than 1 tbsp. of lemon juice made it more tart then sweet. It wasn’t a bad thing, because adding a scoop of vanilla iced created a well balance treat! The filling may have been a bit too much as well. Since it bubbled out over the dish and created a huge mess in my oven. Overall, it was delicious and I would even make it again LOL. Do you have a favorite apple pie recipe I should try?
