Did you know that yesterday was National Grilled Cheese day?! If you missed it, no worries. Grilled sandwiches in general are great any day and at any meal! Here are some of my favorite ways to make a good grilled sandwich.
It all starts with the bread you select. The kind of bread can make or break your sandwich. We typically will have a 12 grain, Italian or some kind of white loaf in our house. In my opinion, Italian or white breads grill the nicest and get the best brown color. My secret for the best brown color but still flavorful and not burnt taste: I use mayo on the outside of the bread instead of butter. I will add a bit of butter or butter spray to the pan to still have the buttery taste. Food Network shows taught me to add mayo on the bread rather than butter. Since I have tried it – I now always use it!
The next important item that will make or break you sandwich is CHEESE.🧀 I always have cheese in the house, but the type of cheese always varies. Some of my favorite cheeses to use in a grilled sandwich include: American, cheddar, provolone, mozzarella, Colby jack and goat cheese. For my perfect grilled sandwich I need at least 2 pieces of cheese; preferably two different kinds (if not more than 2).😆 The cheesier, the better! I love grilling the sandwich open first. Allowing the cheese to melt and time for me to fry the fillings a bit if needed. Once the cheese has started to melt, I will then close the sandwich and let the cheese seal it together and continuing to grill both sides.
Breakfast: I love having a grilled sandwich at breakfast. They taste better then just toasting the bread. I also find that they travel a bit better when you need to go sandwiches in the morning. I will fry an egg and breakfast meat then place them in the bread with cheese. I love using bacon, pork roll, bologna or sausage in the morning.
Lunch/dinner: Who doesn’t love a grilled cheese as your lunch or even dinner. Again it all depends on the type of cheese you pick. Depending on the cheese I have, I will add some lunch meat, bacon or tomatoes to level up⬆️ that grilled sandwich.
What is your favorite grilled sandwich? I would love to hear your tricks, favorite, bread, cheese and fillings. I am always looking to try new ways to enjoy a grilled sandwich.
Live to eat,

Another homey food. Grilled cheese with tomato slice onions and mustard is my go too. I love most all cheese but like to do a mix of cheddar with a hot pepper. Grill the inside first then assemble and grill the outside. Extra crunchy. Yum
