Another fun year in Kennett exploring the mushroom festival! It was a gorgeous, fun filled, and yummy day. It is worth the adventure for all ages! This year we definitely jumped into more sampling of the yummy mushroom treats!
I still recommend arriving right when they open. It allows you to walk the festival and check out all the vendor tents, scope out the food options, and any shopping you may be interested in doing, all before it gets very crowded and almost so much that it is hard to navigate down the streets through the crowd. The big difference that change the whole experience this year was bring extra containers. Yes, you heard that correctly. It allowed us to taste more mushroom treats, but then take the rest home. We didn’t have to waste food, plus we could taste more! It even allowed us to relive the day later that night when we were hungry but still had yummy mushroom treats to enjoy!
Getting their early, allowed us to scope out all the options first. Then when we worked out way back, we decided on what foods we wanted to try. Food this year:

- Bacon on a stick: I mean how do you expect a Filipino to walk past a pork belly stand. Especially when all I could smell was bacon walking that direction. Once we found the source of the heavenly smell, I had to order it. This stand is based out of Philly and they had big pieces of pork belly fired up on all their grill tops. We opted to taste the jerk seasoning and the hot honey. The jerk was spiced perfectly, but it was a bit too much for me. I enjoyed the hot honey much better. It was the a slight zing of heat with a sweet finish! I think it was cooked perfectly too! Luckily it was served with foil, so you know I wrapped the last piece up for later to save room for the mushroom bites!
- Talula’s Table was the next stand we hit. They had a wide variety of mushroom bites. We ordered one soup and then their riz—mac, which is half mushroom mac and cheese and half mushroom risotto. It’s the best of both worlds when you do not have to pick. At first, I thought it was a dish the risotto was baked into the mac and cheese. But then I realized they just give you a big scoop of each lol. Both were delicious and I loved them separate but more in a combined bite. I would recommend that you order that way to enjoy them together. Again, I didn’t eat it all, instead filled a container for later. The soup was good. Creamy with crunch croutons on top. However, I think the La Tavola’s stand last year, had better soup. We had sampled the one for Portobello’s but I am convinced that it was not the exact same recipe as we enjoyed sitting in the restaurant. It seemed creamy, more liquid and less mushrooms LOL.
- Last item was the fried mushrooms. I think these are always a staple/must order. They were crispy, hot and the leftovers heated up perfectly in the air fryer.

Next year, I want to bring even more containers and taste even more food. I think we can do more of a comparison of soups or mac and cheese. The options could be endless. I also love that it gives you the opportunity to check out some of the local restaurants and made plans to come back to check them out completely. My list in Kennett may be longer, but I am ready for more fun experiences that Kennett has to offer!
