Chocolate Peanut Butter Chex

I had some Chex left, the wheat ones (my least favorite lol). I decided to do a sweet treat of chocolate peanut butter. But I felt like were not as satisfying as corn or rice Chex would be LOL.

It was a fairly easy recipe to put together. I preheated the oven to 275. I used about 4 cups of Chex. In a microwave safe dish, I melted 1 tbsp butter, ¼ cup brown sugar, and ½ cup peanut butter. I then poured the mixture over the Chex and mixed until evenly coated. I spread them out evenly on a baking sheet and baked about 1 ½ hours rotating and stirring about every 30 minutes. I took them out and immediately mixed about ¼ cup peanut butter chips and ½ cup chocolate chips when the Chex were still warm until all was melted and evenly coated.  I felt like they tasted a bit burnt, so probably could have gotten away with only 1 hour of baking. I think I could have used more peanut butter chips at the end as well. It was more chocolate forward rather than a nice mix of chocolate and peanut butter.

I may try this again but next time with cheerios or honey nut cheerios or maybe even pretzels for the sweet and salty note. I think the options are endless, so stay tuned!
