Takumi (Wayne, PA)

Just when I thinking I am catching up – I fall back behind LOL. I have been so excited to share this place the last several weeks and I know sharing this I will now need to go back! If you are looking for high quality sushi, with a chill yet elegant vibe as well as fun cocktails and drink selections – Takumi is the place for you!

Ambiance/Atmosphere: What used to Lumbrada now is the modern, Asian chic Takumi. The updated the interior still includes a large bar, that now has the sushi bar as well. You can watch the magical creations of the sushi chefs. There are also booths and tables. It’s a very modern and sleek Asian setting. It’s a bit dark but creates a great date night setting. Staff are top notch. Everyone works as one team. They make sure to clear plates off right away as well as deliver sushi as soon as it has been plated.  They are super welcoming and make great suggestions if you are stuck at what you want.

Drinks: They have a full bar with draft beers, wines and cocktails (including specials). I started on their regular menu and ordered a tequila drink. It was strong, but a perfect sipper that was not overpowering. It paired well with seafood. I was about to order another but thought I should give more of the menu a taste. My waiter suggested the drink special: rose clover club. It was pretty and color and light in taste. However, the after taste reminded me a bit of pep-to-bismol. Not sure if it was because of the color and was a bit thicker … but I would say I prefer the first one LOL. They have a great happy hour selection as well, that I want to check out next time.

Menu: They have options on options. I looked at the menu prior to going and I still felt like there were so many options that I didn’t know where to start LOL. First was to look at the specials: decided to start with the oysters. They were small in size but packed with a delicious flavor of sea. They were one of the best oysters I had. I was sad to see them go so fast, but the food just got better and better. This is one of those places where you order in stages and try as much of the menu as your stomach allows. After oysters, we ordered round 1: sashimi (no rice) eel, king salmon, bluefin and yellow tail, the summerlicious roll (cucumber no rice) and the wagyu beef uramaki roll. The sashimi was fresh, smooth and ate like butter. The king salmon was my favorite! The summerlicious roll was light and refreshing. Not bad but I am not convinced I need to order it again LOL. The wagyu roll was BOMB! The shrimp tempura was crispy and the beef was buttery. It was like eating a surf and turf roll and I would recommend again and again.

Next round included: the real deal roll and nigiri (with rice) toro, flue and white tuna. The real deal was another delicious roll. The combinations of fish were so perfect and easy to eat. It didn’t feel like you were eating seafood. The toro (aka tuna belly) was my favorite. Another fresh, buttery and smooth bite. Sharing this right, make me wish I was eating it all and not looking/writing about it. Lastly, dessert needed to be tasted. They had an espresso crème brûlée that was the perfect ending to a sushi meal. It wasn’t heavy or dense and not too sweet. I think the spoons they served it with were just as fun to use as it was to eat it LOL. I would definitely order the dessert again! The rest of the menu sounds so delicious as well as the pictures they have posted on social. I want to try more and come back for happy hour next time!

Tips/Recommendations: If you want to go for dinner, I recommend making a reservation. They can get busy in the evenings and the wait seemed to be long when we left. It will just make your experience better. If you want to get the full menu and sushi experience, then plan to spend some dough. Though it would seem on the pricey side, everything is such high quality that it is worth every penny. The fish are fresh and cut perfectly. I highly recommend getting any of the belly selections. Tuna toro was my favorite. Next time I want to go for happy hour as well as sit up at the bar and what the sushi chefs in action. And as always, try something new every time you go.
