Highland Orchards (West Chester, PA)

Here’s another one that you want to save for warmer months and fall season since I am late to posting. Highland Orchards sits in the heart of Chester County between Downingtown and West Chester. It’s the perfect spot for fall activities and fun sweet treats!

Ambiance/Atmosphere:  This fun orchard offers a lot! It’s great for the family, dates or friend outings. There is something for everyone. It is a great fall atmosphere but also a high volume social setting. So just keep that in mind LOL.

Activities: There are variety of activities to take part in; first is their farmers market. It has a bit of everything from the orchard as well as local vendors. The must get item (and it goes fast) are the apple cider donuts. But there are also pies and other pastries that are just as tempting. But the apple cider donuts were so delicious and warm; fresh out of the oven. They were the perfect treat to start off the day. Of course apple cider was also necessary! It made for the perfect combination. Other activities besides the market include a corn maze, hay rides, apple cannon and apple picking! But the grounds has other vendors, playground, food trucks and more for you to check out. You can pre-purchase activities or wait until you get there. We waited, but then ended up enjoying the live music and beer garden … that’s right. I told you there is something for everyone!

Vendors: They have a variety of food vendors, truck as well as small businesses selling products. Let’s highlight the most important, Levante Brewing CO. in the beer garden. It was a crisp fall day and they had just set up their tent, so we started off with a beer. I ordered their mango draft ( I am becoming terrible with names lol) and it was deliciously refreshing. While sipping the first one, you had to scope out the food options. Stoltzfus BBQ had an Amish stand so that had to be the pick. They had a special for a pull pork sandwich, with fries and a hand pie – a no brainer order. It was a comforting lunch and paired well with the beer. While eating lunch, the afternoon live music started to set up. Basically just meant another beer was needed and the afternoon just need to be spent outside in the beer garden. They had another food vendor that offered cheese curds. One of my favorite small bites that I cannot say no to – they were cheesy and the perfect little snack later that afternoon.

Tips/Recommendations: Check out the website before planning your visit. You will be able to see hours, if there are any special events so you can plan accordingly. We arrived shortly after opening and it wasn’t too busy. But it got very busy after making it through the market and throughout the day. The line to schedule apple picking/hay rides etc. was very long by the time we left. Though, I will say that shopping the market and spending time in the beer garden made for a perfect day so you can enjoy that as well. A couple ladies had shared a table. They said they tell their family they will pick up the BBQ chicken meals for dinner, but then they meet in the beer garden have some mommy time before heading back home. Another great reason why there is something for everyone! But as always, try something new every time you go!
