Liv and Charlie’s (Lambertville, NJ)

Hey friends! I know I have been MIA, but many more places, recipes and adventures to share. The list is getting long but here we go!

Last adventures in Lambertville included great experiences at Full Moon Café and Meta Café but a new place for breakfast needed to be tried this adventure. After some research and good reviews, Liv & Charlie’s was the choice and I think it will be a routine stop in the future!

Ambiance/Atmosphere: This café is on the smaller size, but they utilize it well with breakfast bar seating, tables and window seats as well as tables outside. They do not open until 9am and we arrived a few minutes till 9am. There was already a line of people waiting to come in. We timed it perfectly though, because they sat all the people before us starting in the back and seating us in the last open table at the front. Within the first 10 minutes, the breakfast bar and outside tables were also full. It created for a busy place, but a welcoming family vibe. The staff were so friendly and the service was fast. We were in, ordered, got food and ate, sipping a few cups of coffee all within 45 minutes. They had a very steady take out business as well. Staff were busy, but never took away from a great breakfast café experience.

Drinks: They had your basics breakfast options of drinks with some other special ones in there as well. But after a wonderful morning stroll to get here, a cup of coffee was all that was needed. It was a delicious blend of power and flavor; just enough of a caffeine punch to start your morning.

Menu: The menu is not large or overwhelming. They have you go to breakfast favorites, but then they also offer specials. I was torn between a special and classic egg platter. I asked our waitress if I wanted to get the southwest hash special – she said “ oh yes” so then it was decided. I do not regret that decision either. Pile on top of seasoned potatoes was onions, peppers, jalapeños, cheddar cheese, a gooey egg, salsa verde and a chipotle aioli. You could add breakfast meat either on the side or mixed in. I added bacon on the side. The best decision as it didn’t get lost. Plus it was extra crispy, thick cut bacon that just topped an already amazing dish! I didn’t finish it all, because I didn’t want to overstuff myself. It was still just as good left over. I just wish I was eating it there and not at my desk at work LOL.

Tips/Recommendations: My number 1 tip is plan accordingly. They were very busy, so try and get there early or plan to do take out because they do not take reservations. They are also only open for breakfast and lunch, so keep an eye on schedule when you go. Coffee is a must get drink – if you are a coffee drinker LOL. Always check out the specials and ask your server what they recommend. Specials are not around all the time, so I do recommend ordering them while you can. Though, after seeing all the food come out, I don’t think you can be disappointed by anything you order. And as always, try something new every time you go.
