401 Prime (Lancaster, PA)

I love when I get to try new places. I heard many good things about 401 Prime, so I was excited when it was in the works and reservation made! My pictures do not do this place just (maybe because I had asked Mom and Dad to help…) but click here for the full highlight!

Ambiance/Atmosphere: This quaint spot located in Lancaster city is a vibe in itself. I love that we went around Christmas, because it was decorated so pretty. They have a bar, dining room and separate dining area if you need to rent out for larger party or event. I think it fits the description of luxury steakhouse. It’s great for happy hour, date night, group gathers or family dinner! We knew some of the employees, so it was top notch service. The were very friendly, explained all parts of the menu and made for a great experience.

Drinks: They have a full bar menu. There were a few bottles of wine ordered for the tables. I can’t remember what I sampled. But I did order a blush hour cocktail. It was very refreshing, smooth and had some bubbles. I thought it paired well with all the bites we had. Of course, I also had to try the espresso martini with dessert. First, they created beautiful art for 401 which was a creative touch. But it was a fun and tall martini glass with a well balance flavor of vodka and espresso.

Menu: When I tell you we had a great sampling of the full menu, I am not lying. I will try to highlight every bite we had – but ultimately you will need to try it yourself LOL. To start the meal, we had some Brazilian style like cheese bread. It was light, fluffy and delicious. On the table was some of their finishing salts and the Himalayan one was my favorite. For appetizers, we had their meatloaf style beef bites, the miso bacon aka pork belly, prime beef tartar, Hamachi crudo, the foie gras torchon, and the wasabi Caesar salad. All were delicious, but the pork belly and crudo were my two favorites! For the main event, we had the tomahawk steak with various sides and sauces. We had truffle mac and cheese, pomme puree, crispy potatoes, and beet risotto. Again, all delicious bites. But my favorite was the truffle mac and cheese! The steak was phenomenal! It was so delicious with the chimichurri sauce and horseradish crème. But I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with and side or sauce! As mentioned before, I had an espresso martini with dessert. We ordered the crème brulee and the skillet cookie with ice cream. I loved the one hot one cold option as it made for delicious bites in between sips of espresso martini. The cookie is big, so only order that to share. But I preferred the crème brulee myself. Click here to see their full menu!

Tips/Recommendations: This is definitely worth the try, especially for any special occasion you may be celebrating. I think the pork belly and any steak is a must try. I also think dessert with an espresso martini is another must try. If you are looking to just give it a sample, then try happy hour at the bar. Plan accordingly though because the bar fills up quick. If you want to come for dinner, regardless of your party size, I also recommend making a reservation! And as always, try something new every time you go.
