IYKYK but Pocahontas was one of my favorite Disney princesses. So how do you go to Williamsburg and not visit Jamestown Settlement? You don’t – because obviously I went.
Since we didn’t buy the historic triangle pass, we needed to buy a pass here for the full experience. They do offer a duel Jamestown & Yorktown pass, but we only were doing Jamestown so we just bought the day pass. This isn’t as large as Colonial Williamsburg, so I think a day pass is enough! With the pass you have access to the full museum and settlement.
We started off in the theater with the introduction movie. It gives you the basic facts and timeline of the Jamestown Settlement. Then we walked through the museum that had all the details and artifacts. Which I will say you look at in a different light then when you were a kid and all you cared about was Pocohontas lol.
Once you walk through the museum, you make your way our to the settlement. It was Foods & Feast weekend, so staff were demonstrating cooking in the 15 century. As a foodie it was so fun to see! You get to see how the English lived and cooked once in Jamestown, the pier and ships they would have taken on the journey, and how the natives lived and cooked. All around an interesting and history driven day! Click here to see the full reel!
Tips/Recommendations: This is worth a visit just to learn more of the first settlements here in America. The staff are always great and have the knowledge to answer your questions. The fact that they are engaged makes the experience that much more fun. As I mentioned, the day pass is plenty for Jamestown, but plan and look up prices ahead of time. If you want to see all or most of the historic Triangle, it may be more worth getting a packaged ticket. We arrived earlier in the day, but by the time we left it was definitely busier. I think getting there close to opening will allow you to enjoy it with less crowds. And as always, try something new every time you go!
