As mentioned, I wanted no sign of Turkey on this birthday especially for birthday dinner. So, Berret’s Seafood was planned. Though they did have a Turkey special for Thanksgiving, we had a great seafood forward fest that was just perfect!
Ambiance/Atmosphere: Berret’s is located in the merchant square of Colonial Williamsburg. It has a dinning room side and bar side. They had a covered outside bar and indoor bar in the dining room. We were tucked in the corner of the dinner room right next to the fireplace. It made for a great cozy dinner. They were busier than I would have liked. But the staff were great. Very friendly and attentive. The positive side of it being busy was that there was some great people watching LOL.
Drinks: They have a full bar with beer, wine, and cocktails. I ordered the apple cider Aperol spritz. It was light, bubbly with a hint of apple. It was a great fall bubbly cocktail. It gets a 9/10. But with dessert I ordered the espresso martini. It was one of the stronger ones I have had. But it was delicious and coffee forward. It gets a 7.5/10.

Menu: As I mentioned, we were not here for the Thanksgiving turkey. To start we ordered the calamari and the hot oyster sampler. The calamari was one of the best I have had! It was so lighted breaded, that you could barely tell but at the same time it was very crispy. The squid was good very well and not chewy at all. The hot oyster sampler was a taste of each of their baked oysters. My favorite was the oyster Rockefeller. It had mozzarella cheese on top and was a delicious gooey bite (9/10). The southern baked oyster had some sausage, tomatoes, and pimento cheese. It was a different combination, but it was a delicious bite (8/10). The last oyster was the Berret’s baked oyster that had crabmeat and country ham. Though this one was delicious, it wasn’t balanced enough for me. The ration was off, but it wouldn’t stop me from ordering it again because it was a flavor bomb (8/10).

There were so many good options for dinner that I wasn’t sure where to start. I did know I was in the mood for scallops, so that needed to be included in the entrée. I ordered the herb crusted barramundi filet with seared scallops. They were served with a parmesan rice, asparagus, and topped with a garlic basil butter sauce. I have never had this type of fish before, and it was much larger of a filet than I anticipated. But it was a delicious white fish, flaky and pair well with the herb crust. The scallops were the perfect barely cooked. Tender, juicy and delicious. My only complaint was there was only two and I could have eaten way more LOL. The asparagus was the perfect vegetable for the plate. It paired perfect with the bites of the parmesan rice. It was almost risotto like, but still rice. Since my filet was bigger than anticipated, I did have leftovers which is always fun. But I will tell you, there were no scallops saved lol.

I of course had to order a birthday dessert (part of the reason why I packed my leftovers). I ordered the creme brûlée. It came with fresh berries and a homemade whipped cream. I love that they placed it on the side of the brûlée to not take away from the perfect sugar crusted topped! It was a creamy and sweet dessert that paired perfectly with the strong espresso martini. They were a good balance together! Click here to see more of their menu!
Tips/Recommendations: This is a must try for seafood lovers. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, this is a perfect option! I do recommend trying one or all of the baked oysters, anything entree with the parmesan rice and the crème brûlée. They were busy for dinner and the holiday, so plan ahead and make reservations. And as always, try something new every time you go.
