Old City BBQ (Williamsburg, VA)

For my birthday this year, it was Williamsburg, VA we explored. After a day of being stuck in the car for way more traffic than we wanted, food and drinks were very necessary and preferably close to our Airbnb. That is how we ended up at Old City BBQ and honestly, I am both shocked and sad that we didn’t end back there!

Ambiance/Atmosphere: Location of Oldy City is prime in Williamsburg, and to our Airbnb (only 6 minutes!). Inside it gives a bar and BBQ place vibe. It’s a bit rustic with fun art but it’s great for families too. Staff were so friendly and great with us since we were out of town. They were pleasant from the time you walked in and all the way until we walked out. It’s a great stop for the whole family, friends or date night.

Drinks: They have a full bar. After a long drive, a cocktail was in order. I opted for a lemonade whiskey drink. It was dangerously delicious and refreshing 10/10! So much so, I ordered a second one lol.

Menu: This place was a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Once she said they had pork belly that was bomb, I was sold. But also I had to be the judge of that! I knew I wanted pork belly but I wasn’t prepared for them to have more than one option. Then our server recommended the brisket as well, so I obviously had to order a combination platter – 3 meats and 2 sides. My meat selections were the smoked pork belly (in thick bacon form), the brisket and then the pork belly nuggets (smoked and flash fried with a spicy yet sweet Asian sauce. My two sides were the mac and cheese a cole slaw. They had their own homemade sauces on the table: Old city vinegar, sticky patches and tidewater. The pork belly bites were flavorful enough. I loved having the vinegar with the bacon belly and the sticky patches was the perfect BBQ sauce for the brisket. The mac and cheese was the BEST. 11/10. I ate it all and I should have order more to take home because it was that delicious. I love that they use cavatappi noodles because it made it that much more fun to eat. I wasn’t sure about dessert. But our server earlier had raved about the corn bread. It was served with a honey butter so it in my mind it was dessert. It was a nice hunk that was both sweet and corn forward. It made for the perfect end bite after a delicious BBQ dinner! Click here to see the full menu.

Tips/Recommendations: This is a MUST STOP. Even if you just take food to go. It will not disappoint. As I mentioned before, I am sad we didn’t make it back or buy some to take home. Writing about it now, is a bit torturous because I want to eat it all. Pork belly I highly recommend as well as the mac and cheese. And as always, try something new every time you go!
