Lancaster Food Tour

Next adventure for the bachelorette weekend was a Lancaster Food Tour! See the full reel of fun here!

Stop #1: We started at Chellas. I have heard great reviews on their food, so I couldn’t wait to give them a taste! Their spot downtown is newer compared to the food truck location need Greenfield. It was a cute spot geared for take out but still had seating for those that wanted to eat in. We were able to sample two of the aperas (a round stuff cornmeal patty). The first was their chicken and the second was the pork. I enjoyed the flavor of the chicken but I though the pork was more flavorful and more tender. However, I didn’t prefer the black beans on the pork so if I would to go back, I think I would prefer to order the chicken. Overall the food gets a 8/10 and I definitely want to go back and try some more of the menu!

Stop #2: Next stop was The Spice & Tea Exchange. I have been to this cute little shop before. The have a variety of teas, spices and more! I am not the biggest tea drinker, but we did sample a tea that I enjoyed chilled so I ended up buying it. If you do like teas and are interested in spices, this place is a definite visit!

Stop #3: We then ventured to Seasons, and olive oil and vinegar bar. I have been to Olio in Lititz a vinegar store and I highly recommend that you check one them out! They allow you sample any of the oils or vinegars before purchasing. There are savory, sweet and some flavors you probably never even thought would exist!  What I loved about this part of our food tour, was we were given a bag of popcorn that we could season as we wished! There were oils, vinegars and seasoning to choose from! It was such a fun idea. I went the savory route and selected some truffle and garlic flavors. It became a delicious snack. I didn’t end up buying anything here, but I would definitely come back!

Stop #4: We went to the Southern Market next. It was my first time there, and I do look forward to stopping back. It is a modern food court with a variety of food stands and a bar in the middle! It would be a perfect group outing as you can pick what you want but still all sit together. First we went to 4 E’s Latin Cuisine and we had their empanadas! They were probably one of the best empanadas that I have had. Perfectly crispy and the perfect balance of filling on the inside. I highly recommend try them. Our last in Southern Market was Barbaret. I have been to their location on King St. so many times. They have top notch French pastries and desserts! So I was very exciting we made a stop before leaving. We had a variety of options to taste, and I opted for the chocolate croissant. It was chefs kiss good!

Stop #5 Last savory stop of the tour was Babylon Kebab and you guessed it we had their kebab! Similar to a Greek gyro, it was on pita bread with fresh tomatoes, onions and lettuce. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and homemade. The owner himself came out to talk to us about the process of cooking it and some history. It was a great experience to share while tasting his food! It is worth a stop and they have a hookah bar if that interests you too!

Stop #6: We ended the tour with a sweet bite from Lancaster Sweet Shoppe! We had a variety of ice cream flavors. I chose the black raspberry with the stroop waffle toppings. It was the perfect way to end the food tour. Something about scooped ice cream and a crunch topping just completes the food journey. If you are an ice cream lover – they it is definitely worth a try!

Overall, it was a fun time, with good food bites. Gave you a good peak in Lancaster’s food scene and a preview of other places for you to check out! They have a variety of tour options and I would say this one was worth the price!
