Farnsworth House Inn

The other new spot we checked out in Gettysburg was the Farnworth House Inn. I guess you can say we were sticking to our theme of historical buildings, this one located right in town!

Ambiance/Atmosphere: This must-see spot has it all, including a bed and breakfast inn, a tavern, an outdoor beer garden and a dinning room. We wanted the full dining experience, and they transported us back to the 1800s. When you walk in the front, it looks like a home/inn. They have a concierge desk and then tables set up in what would be the house’a sitting and dinning rooms. All the staff were desk in period time clothing. Even the menu was a scroll and the music they had playing was from the period times as well!

Drinks: They have a variety of beers, wines and cocktails. I ordered a wine spritzer that was refreshing and paired well with all food!

Menu: Their menu is not large, but they do try and transport your stomach back in time as well. They start your off with a cold 3 bean salad. It was a vinegar base, but it didn’t do much for me. I tasted it but opted to save room for more food lol. Next up was spoon bread. It was a different type of texture. Not quite a baked bread, but almost grainy like a grits. I didn’t think it had much taste. Looking at it I just wanted it to be cheesier LOL. But that could just because I love cheese, and the color reminded me of cheese LOL. We also had rolls with homemade apple butter (yes all of this before the entrees arrived LOL). The rolls were fluffy and light. The apple butter was apple forward, but not too sweet at all. They were the perfect combination.

For my entrée I ordered the salmon with the rice pilaf and corn as the side. The salmon was cooked well, still moist. It was topped with a honey garlic glaze. It was a nice, sweet finish. The rice and corn were decent sides, but not the star of the show. They did make it feel like warm homecooked meal as I am sure it was enjoyed back in the 1800s. I was pretty full but I heard they had a lemon cake for dessert, so I had to order that. It was a bigger piece than expect, so some came home too! It was very lemon forward, and the cake was very moist. It was sweet but not overly sweet. It was the perfect finish to the meal. Click here to see the menus.

Tips/Recommendations: I think this is definitely worth a visit. The dinning room side is a fun experience. But I do think the beer garden and tavern can be just as fun. I want to go back to check both out. I think you should be open to try all the sides, but the bread and apple butter were my favorite. I would also recommend the salmon! They also offer tours as well – I think that will be a fun add on to the experience. And as always, try something new every time you go!
