Appalachian Brewing Co. (Gettysburg, PA)

I am falling behind again – but per usual, lots more fun things coming up to share! I have been to Appalachian Brewing Co. (ABC) in Lititz several times. But this was my first time at the Gettysburg location!

Ambiance Atmosphere: This a great brew pub style spot. They have a large bar, opening seating, separate room for groups plus an outdoor beer garden area! We sat at the bar, one of my favorite spots. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful when making a decisions – you know my indecisive self loves that lol.

Drinks: I have had a variety of the beers in the past. I would rate them middle of the row. Some are above average/enjoyable, and others are “nah I don’t need to order those again” LOL. I do love their root beer and birch beer though. Some of the best I had, and I love making them into floats LOL. This time around, I ordered their sour on tap, the margo rita gose. It was crisp, refreshing and paired well with food. I thought it was a great tart beer! Later, I ordered the white birch beer … another great choice we will dive further later on.

Menu: It was national pretzel day, so of course it was necessary to start with the Bavarian pretzel. Slight disappointment that it did not come out on a hanging hook, but it was the perfect appetizer pairing for beer! It was served with a warm cheese dip that was creamy and created a great combination. As well as a brewhaus mustard which I actually thought was better than the cheese. Which is surprising for me … but hey, it’s something about that pretzel mustard pairing that I just love.

As is the norm, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat for a main. I was very hungry so that makes it harder to decide. I have had their burgers at the Lititz location and I knew that it shouldn’t disappoint. Plus beer and burger is another great combination. I opted for the Yurt that was topped with BBQ bacon, cheddar, friend onions, pickle lettuce and tomato. It came with a root beer BBQ ranch and fries. It came out perfectly cooked and how I ordered it. The toppings were a wonderful flavor bomb with each bite! I loved the ranch and French fry bite as well. I crushed the entire plate with no issues. My only negative was the fried onions weren’t necessary. I more dislike when you bite into them and you pull the onion out of the breading -it defeats the purpose of a fried onion ring lol. But removing it just made for the perfect burger!

After crushing this meal, I decided no more beer was necessary, but a float for dessert was. I ordered the white birch beer float. It was a delicious finish to a perfect lunch.  I love that they give you the bottle to gradually add it to the ice cream. It’s the best way to not have all your ice cream defrost and disappear right away!

Tips/Recommendations: I think you need to try any one of ABC’s location. This location is specially fun in a downtown historic part of PA! I highly recommend the burgers!! You cannot go wrong with any of them. If you do not order a float, I suggest taking a root or birch beer home so you can create it yourself. They also do to go beer if you enjoy one kind specifically. And as always, try something new every time you go.
