While shopping in a dangerous store… Michael’s… I stumbled upon the clearance section. This including kitchenware and the DASH mini pie maker. It was a fun investment, and I can wait to explore more recipes! This is the perfect personal size pie maker. It comes with a crust cutter to perfectly fit your base and top of the pie. It makes it so easy! It comes with a recipe book as well to get you started. I used the one pie recipe in the book as the guide. After several rounds, I recommend not rolling out your premade pie crust too thin as it doesn’t hold well with all fillings. I usually can get about 4 pies (bottom and top) out of 1 crust with the extra crust pieces.

First plug in the DASH and let it heat up. It doesn’t take long. Spray with nonstick spray and place the bottom crust. Fill with your filling to your desired amount. I like to do a heaping 1/3 cup size. Then place the top crust and close. I find that if you press down a bit more with force, than it helps to seal and crimp your crusts together better. I also found that if you don’t have enough filling (specifically piled in the middle) the top crust doesn’t reach the top of the pie maker. Sometimes the center of the top crust doesn’t cook up enough and can be a bit raw. The pie will only take about 4-5 minutes. Any longer you have to be careful to not over burn the edges!

So far I have only made fruit pies: one with can peaches, fresh apple surly and a can cherry pie filling. I say “made” not eat, because if you know me I do not like cherries. But I can tell you the peaches were good. Canned fruit tends to be very liquidy so I should have drained all the liquid from the peaches. I could have doctored them up with some more sugar or spices too because they just kind of tasted like canned peaches not peach pie LOL. The homemade apple surly needed to be a bit thicker as it was too juicy and the crusts didn’t hold together very well LOL. The cherry pie filling was messy – but cooked okay. The taste…will need to be up to your imagination. Removing is the trickiest part. They recommend silicon or wood utensils so you do not scratch it. If the crust didn’t seal together or there is a lot of liquid, it can be hard to pull the pie out. But I will say in one batch I usually have 1 or 2 pies that come out perfect (those are the pictures you see lol.)
Overall it is a fun little appliance. I love that it is mini. I think I may start to precut some crust and freeze them by the pie – so they are ready to go whenever I want. The recipe has some breakfast/savory style quiches so that will be the next one to try!
