The Original Chex Mix

Buying the Chex multi-flavor box from Costco was genius on my part – at least I think so LOL. First, I made the muddy buddies. Second, is the original Chex mix recipe. I had fun making it and eating it so much, that I almost forgot to take a picture. So, this dinky one doesn’t do it justice. But it was delicious!

Ingredients: 3 cups corn Chex, 3 cups, rice Chex, 3 cups wheat Chex, 1 cup salted peanuts, 1 cup pretzel chips and 1 cup bagel chips.

For the seasoning: 6 tbsp. butter, 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, a blend of season salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.

First, I preheated the oven to 250. Directions said to place the pan with the butter while it preheated. Then I tossed the mixture to be coated in the butter. I gradually sprinkled the dry seasonings, continue to toss to coat it completely. Then I baked it in the oven for about 1 hour stirring it every 15 minutes. It turned out delicious and addicting so I would say it was a success.

I can say that I have never read the step-by-step directions closely, so I have never done the melting of the butter in the pan during the preheat. But it was a fun way to melt butter then toss the mix. However, it was a bit messier than doing it all in a large bowl and lots of Chex went flying… so I would not recommend LOL. I still have more Chex from my Costco box – so next up will be another fun savory mix. Stay tuned!
