Looking for a an old English style tavern with elevated pub grub? Then The Whip should be on your list to try next!
Ambiance/Atmosphere: This small tavern, is tucked in the middle of nowhere. But it makes for a great scenic drive, plus it totally worth it. It’s not very large and gives the small town everyone knows everyone pub vibe! They also have a patio and outdoor seating for the warmer weather days we look forward to!
Drinks: They have beer, wine and cocktails as most places. I decided to go with beer – Dogfish Sea Quench sour to be specific. It’s another great sour that is light, refreshing and pairs well with food!

Menu: I prepared and studied the menu before arriving, but I still had a hard time deciding what to order. I started with Weck Spring Rolls (House sliced roasted beef, onions, garlic, provolone & cooper sharp cheese, in a crispy egg roll wrap topped with caraway seeds & sea salt) and these DID NOT disappoint. They were very delicious, crispy and melted in your mouth. They were served with this creamy horseradish dip that just set it over the top! When in Chester County and so close to Kennett, you need to order anything that says “Kennett Mushrooms” or at least I do LOL. I ordered the soup, it was perfect warm appetizer and the mushrooms were fresh! I love that is was a chicken broth based soup and not creamy. The flavors were layered and the soup was not heavy. It was the perfect starter!

I ordered in stages to hopefully have an idea of what to order for the main course. However, the mushrooms were so delicious it threw me for a loop and I changed my mind LOL. I decided to order the tavern sandwich (A thick slice of smoked ham on crusty bread with brie, tomato and spicy honey mustard, with crisps) but opted for my side to be the mushroom risotto. And again, I was note disappointed – the mushrooms were cooked so perfectly and the risotto melted with each bite. I think it was my favorite part of the meal. The sandwich was good as well, but not the highlight in my opinion.

Tips/Recommendations: We went for a late lunch/early dinner but did have reservation. It is high recommended to have one as seating is limited and they get very busy! If you can, look at the menu ahead of time and order in stages. I don’t think you will be disappointed in any item you order, but it gives you time to decide what you want and taste as much as the menu as you can! I highly recommend the weck spring rolls and mushroom risotto. And as always, try something new every time you go!
